About Gurukula
Vedika Gurukula…a Return to Tradition School of Ayurveda
is dedicated to reinvigorating the traditional study of Ayurveda, and sharing this with communities around the world. This is accomplished via the establishment of a traditional school of Ayurveda called Gurukula.
is particularly interested in teaching and sharing the orally transmitted Ayurvedic wisdom that has been lived and taught for thousands of years in the homes of learned experts in the Indian sub-continent and passed to their students and families. Elements of this have been part of the fabric of home wisdom that a grandparent made sure was passed on to the generations that followed. Nowadays though, with globalization and “modernization” much of this home wisdom has been mistaken as old-fashioned and presumed to lack scientific foundation. Education grounded in tradition and original Ayurveda scriptures is the key to reclaiming this sophisticated wisdom.
The knowledge kept alive in the oral tradition gives expression to the ancient texts by the sages of Ayurveda, which are themselves compendiums of the vast oral tradition of Ayurveda that has flourished for around 5,000 years. These texts are nearly 2,000 years old and form an important aspect of Vedika's curriculum.
Vedika is committed to teaching Ayurveda in its natural context, which includes the study and practice of therapeutic yoga, pranayama, meditation, and the philosophy of the Vedas and Upanishads which stands at its foundation.
Yoga and Vedanta philosophy are natural partners of Ayurveda, the spiritual science and art of masterful living. Ayurveda offers an invitation to participate in disciplines that ultimately enhance health, well-being, and happiness. It's an invitation to partner with Nature in her enthusiasm to heal and rejuvenate. After all, Ayurveda was born in communities that lived close to the Nature and studied Her carefully.
Vedika is celebrating Ayurveda not only for its ability to help people with illness, but also for its larger healing power – its ability to help hearts and spirits heal along with bodies.
Through its students and partners and friends, Vedika aims to make this knowledge and healing available to people in at-risk and low-income communities. To enrich the community, Vedika is also dedicated to offering uplifting events with wise and inspiring teachers from the Ayurvedic and Vedic field.
I welcome seekers from all my heart to come study at Vedika and blossom into true healers, master teachers and sage ambassadors of Ayurveda,
