Vaidya Prof. Ram Harsh Singh

Vaidya Prof. Ram Harsh Singh is Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Ayurvedic Medicine at the prestigious Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.  He is an important voice in the international promotion of Ayurveda and contemporary research, along with the preservation of Ayurveda's authentic character and standards.

Vaidya Prof. Singh graduated in Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery from Banaras Hindu University (1961), did PhD. (1969) and D.Litt. (1982) under the coveted guidance of Padmashri Prof. K.N. Udupa.

Prof. Singh joined the Faculty of Ayurveda at Banaras Hindu University in 1964 and served this famous institution for nearly four decades in the capacity of Lecturer, Reader, Professor, Head of the Department of Ayurveda, and Dean of the Faculty. Subsequently he joined the newly launched Rajasthan Ayurveda University of Jodhpur as its first Vice-Chancellor, before retiring. During his university career, 100 M.D.s in Ayurveda and 35 PhDs  graduated under his much sought out guidance. Dr. Singh is currently a consultant on Ayurveda to the Indian Central Government's Department of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha & Homeopathy).

Vaidya R. H. Singh has published 12 important books, 200 research papers in Indian and international journals, and serves on the editorial board of several journals of Ayurveda. His widely studied publications include The Holistic Principles of Ayurvedic Medicine; Body Mind Spirit: Integrative Medicine in Ayurveda, Yoga and Nature Cure; Pancha Karma Therapy: Ancient Classical Concepts, Traditional Practices, Recent Advances and Guidelines of Standard Practice; the multi-volume Science & Philosophy of Indian Medicine with Prof. Udupa, and The Foundations of Contemporary Yoga.

He is the member of the National Commission of History of Science and is the Ratna Sadasya of National Academy of Ayurveda. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Indian Medicine and was conferred the degree of Doctor of Medicine Honoris causa by Medicina Alternative Alma Ata. Prof. Singh is the recipient of Hari Om Ashram Award, Jiwaka Award of Asian Medicine and Pt. Ram Narain Sharma Best Teacher's Award.

Vaidya Prof. Singh has extensive experience as a leading international lecturer and guest professor of Ayurveda, and travels worldwide to promote Ayurveda. Throughout his career Prof. Singh has been seriously engaged in the revival and development of Ayurveda on scientific lines as an evidence-based system of medicine. He is also engaged in developing courses and programs in Ayurveda to meet growing interdisciplinary needs.
