Vedika Acharya
Founder and Head of Gurukula
Shunya Pratichi Mathur
Pratichi Mathur is the Founder and Acharya of Vedika Global, dedicated to teaching, living and sharing the spiritually energized science of Ayurveda. Pratichi is the inheritor and documenter of wisdom from a long lineage of Sadhus and scholars devoted to serving humanity through the Vedic Vidyas, significantly Vedanta, Yoga and Ayurveda.
From a very young age, Pratichi actively apprenticed under her grandfather Baba Ayodhya Nath Sinha, and due to the many generations that preceded her, Pratichi was inspired to dedicate herself to founding Vedika, where she can pass on the oral tradition of her lineage in traditional Gurukula style of experiential and immersion style learning; and thereby, encourage and preserve the Gurukula model of education in Ayurveda that is classified as an endangered tradition and must be preserved, because orally transmitted knowledge is an invaluable spiritual and cultural heritage of humanity. This led to the establishment of Vedika Gurukula – a unique “Back to Tradition” College of Ayurveda.
Since traditionally, the study of Ayurveda is steeped in its larger Vedic and philosophic context and is considered a spiritual sadhana interwoven with concept of Sangha (conscious community development) and Seva (selfless service to humanity), Pratichi has inspired Vedika Global’s culture to reflect these ideals and Vedika's culture is rooted in selfless humanitarian service “Seva” has inspired the establishment of Vedika Jyoti’s - low-cost Ayurveda community clinics, set up to serve low income and at-risk communities worldwide with the first efforts located in Berkley, California; staffed by a selfless army of inspired Gurukula students and Ayurveda doctors from India; and Vedika Sangha, a conscious community development project through sharing of knowledge and creation of a worldwide Ayurveda Sangha.
As Acharya of Vedika students, Pratichi initiates the sincere seekers into formal study of Ayurveda through the Upanayana - Vedic fire ceremony (ritualistic start of study); and personally oversees the full spectrum growth of each student, as per the Gurukula model of intimate and personalized teacher-student model of education and guides the traditions and rituals that accompany the dissemination of knowledge in this form of education. She establishes the dharmic behavioral and ethical protocol of students that is essential to the integrity of a traditional Gurukula as it is enlivened into the 21st Century.
As teacher, Pratichi is the main teacher for the first year students and continues to teach classified Gurukula curriculum and Ayurvedic psychology to second, third and fourth year students. Pratichi also leads the educational sessions through Vedika Sangha, the community outreach and informal education platform of Vedika Global, and, leads Vedika students on Ayurvedic pilgrimage in India. Since from a young age, Pratichi was immersed in a rich living tradition of Ayurveda, which she inherited in full from her grandfather, and because this training is very rare in our times, she understands the immense value of a personalized and immersion form of learning; and hence, this is what she teaches to the students at Vedika Gurukula with profound commitment to the ancient knowledge, along with her own wisdom which is rich and engaging with contemporary relevance.
As head of Gurukula, Pratichi oversees the Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta curriculum creation and development while always keeping the traditional Ayurvedic scriptures, Vedic references and oral Gurukula tradition at the core. She ensures that the teaching of Ayurveda remains embedded in the larger Vedic tradition of India, with due recognition of Ayurveda's living, scientific as well as cultural and spiritual contributions and interconnections.
In her various roles as healer, teacher, author and pioneer, Pratichi is known for her unique way of expressing Ayurveda in conjunction with Yoga and Vedanta wisdom. Pratichi's teachings and writings revolve around the theme of Self, and reclaiming health by reclaiming connection with our inner Self. Pratichi conducts Sat Sanghas and leads humanitarian outreach efforts to serve the Self in all and facilitates through her teachings, an experiential transformation of body, mind and soul through “lived” Ayurveda, rooted in its timeless Sadhu tradition, ablaze with Shakti of Self, awakening and enkindling the fire of powerful self healing within.
