Vaidya Dr. M. R. Vasudevan Nampoothiri M.D. Ayu. is the Director of Ayurveda Medical Education for the State of Kerala, and State Program Director for the Dept. of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy and Amchi) for Kerala. Vaidya Nampoothiri is a distinguished and inspiring educator, and an expert in the field of Panchakarma.
Vaidya Nampoothiri graduated First Class from Kottakkal Ayurveda College (1977) and earned his Ayurveda Vachaspati (M.D.) in Panchakarma and Kayachikitsa at the Govt. Ayurveda College in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandram) in 1981.
For the next 20 years, Dr. Nampoothiri taught at the Govt. Ayurveda College in Thiruvananthapuram. He guided over 60 post-graduate students in their research and theses, leading to important research papers on topics such as Ayurvedic management of Parkinsons Disease, low back pain, psoriasis, and numerous other conditions. His students have gone on to become outstanding Ayurvedic doctors, researchers and contributors to the international promotion of Ayurveda. Vaidya Nampoothiri continues to be extensively sought out for both government and private Panchakarma training programs throughout India.
Vaidya Nampoothiri went on to become Dean of the Faculty of Ayurveda and Chairman of the Board of Ayurveda Studies at the University of Kerala, Principal of the Govt. Ayurveda Colleges in Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram, then Director of Ayurveda Medical Education for the State of Kerala. He is a Member of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi, Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar, and Convenor of the Patent Cell for the Govt. of Kerala.
Dr. Nampoothiri has been a regular speaker at national conferences, seminars and workshops. He is the author of a post-graduate textbook on Principles & Practice of Vasthi, as well as research on Ayurvedic Medication in Parkinson's disease, and over 50 articles on various facets of Ayurveda. He has also organized national seminars on Ayurveda for Low Back Pain, Preventive Cardiology and Oncology management.
Vaidya Nampoothiri has carried forward traditional Ayurveda's spirit of community seva. He organized medical camps and surveys during epidemics of Gastroenteritis and Chikungunya, and in service of people in Tsunami-affected areas of Kerala, where he also led rehabilitation projects.
