Unique Clinical Internship Model at Vedika

“Ayurveda declares that ultimately the root of all ill health - body, mind, soul- is ignorance; and education functions at the level of uprooting this ignorance. Hence, we at Vedika are 'educationists' in every sense of the word, especially in the realm of health facilitation through our wellness clinic.”

- Shunya Pratichi Mathur, Founder and Acharya, Vedika Global

Fundamental Premise: Ignorance is the root cause of disease

According to Ayurveda, ignorance is the root cause of disease, and knowledge the best medicine. A society that is educated in the science of Ayurveda will be a healthy society.

Facilitating critical education at every level

Vedika’s clinical model attempts to facilitate critical education at every level for its patients. This creates an educated self reliance in the patient, an empowered state of mind for the one who is suffering. And further, education invests a patient with the ultimate responsibility to get better. They are taught to make informed choices that facilitate greater balance in their body, mind and soul. Thus, our approach is again in deep contrast to the prescriptive model of mainstream health care which focuses on battling disease with herbs/drugs, without empowering the patient.

Journey towards health

In Vedika’s traditionally holistic model of health enhancement, the patient is a co-creator of health, not merely a consumer awaiting a prescription. To accomplish this goal, Vedic Seva Clinic provides the patient with access to right knowledge of health principles via the student practitioner. The principles are customized to the patient's needs for body, mind, soul and life. They enable the patient to destroy their own ignorance and truly learn the whys and hows to optimize health and prevent disease. Cooking demonstrations and hands on teaching further aid the patient in internalizing the learning.

A lineage based model of health care

In this unique clinical model propounded by Vedika’s Acharya Shunya Pratichi Mathur, following her lineage’s example,

  • Student interns show the patient how to weaken disease at its root by educating him about the cause of the pathology, and how to stop aggravating the imbalance. The patient is taught to restore balance by cooking the right foods, appropriate exercises, meditation, breathing, spiritual practices and other relevant aspects.

  • As per Ayurveda, the cause of the disease is not only physical but also in the mind, or Karmaja Vyadhi (due to negative karma) which is a spiritual condition.

  • As per lineage methodology, student interns will not only utilize material science solutions - Yukti-vyapashraya chikitsa ( logical steps to heal the body made up of matter) but also Daivya-vyapashraya chikitsa or spiritual science – to connect with the non material/ non tangible element of soul within us.

  • Lastly, student interns will also extensively employ Sattva-vajaya chikitsa - psychological science - specialized counseling, disciplines and practices to heal and empower the mind.

  • In the modern era, the latter two approaches have been neglected in favor of body-focused knowledge. However, at Vedika Seva, due to the example set by the Gurukula lineage, we offer a judicious blend of all three therapeutic approaches for the benefit of the individual.

  • Student interns are under constant supervision of the head teacher – Acharya along with anchor teachers.

Promoting self reliance versus reliance on drugs

Vedika's approach relies upon minimal medication, and more on home remedies, the kitchen garden and wellness practices a patient can do for him or herself. This makes the whole process entirely natural and empowering for the patient, at the same time keeping the cost of wellness low.

A teaching curriculum for health ensuring permanent change

This is why all patient sessions include a teaching curriculum. Healing is then structured around this frame of education. Patients are expected to be educated by the student interns with a carefully planned curriculum in self-care at each session.

Vedika teaches active principles of health care versus palliative care

In keeping with the Gurukula tradition, health is safeguarded and enhanced at all times, thereby keeping disease at bay. Vedika’s health clinic specializes in preventive medicine utilizing classic principles of Ayurveda with Yoga and Vedanta for addressing the body, mind and soul.

Synergistic blend of Ayurveda with Yoga and Vedanta in clinical training

Traditionally, Yoga and Vedanta were always offered in conjunction with Ayurveda inside a Gurukula. Nowadays, in mainstream medicine and education, they are offered separately. As a result, a practitioner of one system may not know much about the other two. However, at Vedika Seva Clinic, we endeavor to return to tradition and offer them in their natural unison for a wide spectrum of benefit and thorough attention to all dimensions of the human being.

The three together synergistically impact the physical, sensory, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of existence, which are intertwined in the human experience and all equally important for health. Student interns at Vedika employ various practical aspects of these sciences to facilitate multi dimensional health in the patients.
