This stand- alone year at Vedika has been carefully designed as a time when students learn by doing. They live, immerse themselves and experience so that deep, internalized learning can take place. Along with the fundamentals of Ayurveda such as its basic principles, anatomy and physiology, students also learn details about daily and seasonal practices and precautions. They are taught how to choose, cook and eat Ayurvedic food daily in class. Ayurveda, Yoga, Pranayama and Mantra are incorporated in their daily life. Thus, theoretical understanding with experiential learning is the theme of the first year.
Students report that the entire year is “like an extended personal retreat. It is an opportunity to apply Ayurveda’s science and spirituality towards the care and wellbeing of one’s own body, mind and soul in a caring supportive environment”.

The first two months of the year: will focus mainly on imparting well-being promoting practices, so that in the following months Ayurveda’s healing wisdom supports the journey of the student as they tackle more advanced topics of study. This means embarking upon detoxifying, nourishing, lightening diet protocols (as applicable), and adopting practices such as meditation, mantra chanting, Surya Namaskar with Mantras, Yoga, and Pranayama into their daily routines. Almost daily, students learn different healing balancing recipes and get hands on training on how to cook the Ayurveda super foods.
1. Participating in Vedic festivals which typically carry seasonal, astrological and spiritual significance.
2. Interacting within the mutually supportive conscious community called Vedika Sangha.
3. Rendering selfless service (Seva) to the parent non-profit, Vedika Global, helping further its humanitarian mission world.
Such activities not only supplement classroom education, but significantly aid the healing of the mind and the social self of the student, tapping hidden skills and unearthing passive strengths. With participation in these three areas, students are supported in crafting a personal foundation of studentship.

Any educational endeavor benefits from sincerity and true effort. This is even more applicable in the case of Ayurveda as it is a spiritually based science of life. The Gurukula tradition is not merely a matter of memorizing information and taking tests on how much one has “successfully memorized,” but also involves subjectively experiencing Ayurveda’s healing wisdom by following its recommendations sincerely and internalizing the wisdom. The loving transmission of knowledge that is provided to the students of Vedika in the first year, along with practices that can be done at home to regain health, greatly assist the healing process and activate the manifestation of timeless laws of Ayurveda in the body and mind of the student.
Throughout the year, loving support and mentoring warmly provided to all students. The option will remain open to repeat the Self Healing first Year at half the cost for another year so that well-being is activated from within and knowledge becomes internalized through the living of Ayurveda principles and lifestyle practices.
