At Vedika, Students are groomed and equipped to become leaders of change and harbingers of health. Suffering humanity is waiting for leaders who can own the truth and not only talk the talk but walk it too. The consciousness elevating, transformative education at Vedika crafts special leaders in Ayurvedic health care who can show the way to abiding health by first walking on the path themselves.
“Vedika’s mission will be accomplished by each of its dedicated students from the flame of knowledge that is lit within their own selves. The graduates are like points of light making up the fiery circle of wisdom. By applying the knowledge from the Vidyas – Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta, they will serve humanity in the real setting of day to day life, selflessly, in the arena of personal community, dispelling rampant disease, ignorance and imbalance. Transformed from within through illumined education, the students evolve into natural and powerful agents of community upliftment, instilling hope and health in suffering humanity. Their attitude in everything they do, will be one of humanitarian service, since selfless service or Seva to all creatures is the first and final teaching of the Vedic spiritual tradition.”
- Shunya Pratichi Mathur
Founder, Vedika Global
This is the basic premise of education at Vedika. Hence, to become the next generation of community leaders in global health care, students are asked to first and foremost take charge of their own health and well being in the Ayurvedic way. They work towards better self-health – body, senses, mind, and soul.
Therefore, in Vedika Gurukula, knowledge is not merely memorized. Where is the authentic and life-altering benefit in that? Rather, our course of study begins with, and stays firmly anchored in Ayurveda's self-healing principles of masterful living, Yoga's mind purifying injunctions, and Vedanta's soul liberating truths. Accumulation of intellectual data for the purpose of passing tests and scoring grades is not learning. The Vedika Gurukula approach is boldly unparalleled. Deep listening, profound contemplation, on-going reflection, internalization and integration of knowledge are nurtured. Students imbibe the essence of the wisdom presented in class, holding it in their memory, nurturing it and living it daily. In this living of the knowledge, the real "tests" are passed, the highest "scores" are achieved, the "results" are there for everyone to see. Homework assignments reflect the effort made by the student to assimilate the knowledge.
The education program at Vedika is therefore consciously designed to promote holistic skills through comprehensive theoretical foundations and applied, practical, hands on experience.
Vedika emphasizes the development of deep, internalized skills and a habit of life long learning. This creates the ability to build upon and execute truly evolutionary visions.
The personalized teaching method, the soulful integration of Ayurveda’s science with its spirituality, the Ayurvedic ethical, mental and social health recommendations to students for interpersonal interactions, dedication to classical texts, teaching of Sanskrit to be able to directly benefit from the source texts, re-incorporation of the timeless oral tradition of Ayurveda and its teachings, cooking and eating of only seasonally recommended foods at school, and integrating Ayurveda with the allied sciences of Yoga Darshan and Vedanta Darshan create the right environment to incubate future leaders in world health care.
It is our founder Shunya Pratichi Mathur’s vision that our world is ready for a new vision in health and healing.
“New leaders, new concepts and a review of our global requirements are the needs of the hour. Must we continue to blindly spend natural, financial, human and educational resources in just fighting disease when we can prevent it so well through the ample, amazing and accessible resources of Ayurveda? In fact, Ayurveda is first and foremost about prevention of disease and only then about fixing it. Is humanity ready to navigate a different path, where the focus is on embracing and welcoming health instead of being a puppet in the hands of disease?
The problem must be addressed at the root, where education begins. The world does not need mere prescription writers from the factory model of mass production education. We want real teachers and master healers who are authentic role models, who can remind us about health, who can teach with gentleness the forgotten lessons of self care, who have themselves claimed wholeness and know intimately the art of walking on the path of health.
At the foundation of our education efforts, if we believe that we wish to educate about health, it follows that we will have corralled disease too. If we, who are engaged in the field of Ayurveda, the science of health, lose direction and give more focus on attacking the symptoms through drugs rather than on prevention, then who will teach about health?”
- Shunya Pratichi Mathur
Hence, at Vedika, we provide students with an education of exceptional quality in Ayurveda. The focus is on prevention of disease, spanning all four dimensions of human existence – body, senses, mind and spirit. We prepare wellness care professionals to serve the under-served both locally and in the global context. It is our vision that our graduates will be catalysts of change in the global health arena.
We are therefore leading the paradigm shift in education to primarily focus on learning to maintain and protect both individual and community health - and we invite you to join us by becoming Vedika’s torch bearers, traditional healers, health crafters, sage teachers for modern times and afflictions.
Vedika’s pioneering education is bringing Ayurveda’s wisdom alive in each student’s personal life, in their relationship with themselves and their natural, social, and professional environment. The flame of health is ignited by Vedika’s transformative education inside the student’s home, kitchen and herb garden. There is hope that the light of true abiding health will spread from person to person throughout the community and then globally, carrying its auspicious radiance and benefactor warmth.
This is the light Vedika expects its future leaders to share with suffering humanity – a message of hope in a time when mainstream health care costs are escalating and pushing health services out of reach for billions.
Preventative Ayurvedic healthcare is not only economical, but also empowers the individual. No one needs to be left behind – period. Each individual has the right to both traditional and current knowledge, to health-promoting, disease-preventing skills and practical wisdom that can be applied in the comfort of home, kitchen and garden. Vedika pledges to revive the traditional art of health management and health protection through its vision and implementation of the Gurukula model of education.
