The Founder and Acharya of Vedika, Shunya Pratichi Mathur grew up in a Gurukula environment, trained to become the inheritor and documenter of her family’s Gurukula tradition. Vedika Gurukula has emerged in California in the 21st century, inspired by the organizations that her ancestors founded in the ancient city of Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh, India) in the late 1800’s. It is firmly based on the knowledge of a living Gurukula Parampara (tradition) that she has articulated in contemporary contexts. At Vedika, the Gurukula model of education has been re-enlivened by Shunya Pratichi Mathur to fulfill the goal of transformational education, to facilitate positive personal evolution in all dimensions: body, mind and soul. The Gurukula system of education was found to be an ideal fit for the task of grooming leaders, where a student evolves into a healer and teacher.
