Part 1 : Swadhyaya on Karma Yoga slokas
My clarity :
The teachings on svadharma re-emphasized that doing one’s duty which has come about due to karma, is a path that leads to moksha. When atman is everywhere, then it is atman that one serves as a result of one’s karma obligations. That is prarabdha. Now, what one does with the rest of one’s time and life is going to create agaami karma, the sowing of the seeds for the future. The teachings on the four purusharthas give clarity for this direction.
While responding to past karma waves, or creating karma for the future, the attitude makes all the difference.
Sometimes dealing with past karma takes most of one’s focus and time. I remember to be fine with that, to be grateful for the opportunity to soothe myself and others, erase past hurts and correct previous mistakes. I would like to remind myself that there are moments and openings for the future towards which I can skip and jump and play.
Often the subconscious or unconscious conditioning comes up, and in the moment, the verses on Karma Yoga help to transcend and transform reactions. So they are my internal buttons that I can choose to press in response to external triggers.
Here’s to ‘Finding new solutions’ to old problems and attitudes.
Chapter 2 Sloka 36 - May 10th 2018
Face the war
Sometimes the circumstances and situation may be overwhelming and we may not have the skills or knowledge to face them. But once we are willing to face them, then guidance shall be given. Our mind will be freed of the raaga or dvesha and we will start looking for ways to deal with the situation.
Chapter 2 Sloka 38 - May 10th 2018
Transcend the afflictions caused to the body by victory and defeat, to the mind by loss or gain, to the intellect by sorrow and joy. For this to happen, first see the waves of reactions caused by the waves outside. Recognize what is happening. See what is in your jurisdiction and what is not. Then through saakshi bhaava and the attitudes of karma yoga, stay steady on your surf board while riding the waves of karma, yours and collective, in this ocean which has all kinds of waves and creatures. See deeply into the experience and your hooks. Do not expect that you will not have to face these waves. You are riding the ocean of experience.
Remember the difference between Nitya and anitya
