Garden Herbs

Each class will teach you how to grow your own foods, flowers, spices, and herbs so you can cultivate health from your own garden, backyard, balcony, or back porch.

My grandfather and Guru, Baba, is the inspiration for our ancestral library. Baba was an extraordinary Ayurveda healer and spiritual teacher in Ayodhya, India, whose very presence soothed, comforted and gave hope to the many who sought his counsel. Baba enlivened my classroom with real life nature immersion. He taught me how to touch, smell and taste health by  introducing me to Ayurveda’s super foods, healing spices and recipes, and led me on countless adventures through farms and forests full of magical herbs. We planted garden herbs and harvested fruits and flowers together. We cooked oils and balms and put together medicinal formulae that were distributed free of cost to all who sought Baba’s help and blessings.

I am delighted to now bring these teachings alive for you, with the support of Chef Sanjai, who shares his love of cooking inherited from his mother and grandmother, through our Ayurveda Ancestral Herbal Library.

What we put in our own, as well as our loved ones’ bodies becomes an integral part of us. And yet, we often know so little about the healing qualities of the common foods, spices and herbs, that we use to prepare our meals every day. Many of us, leading a modern lifestyle away from the elders in our families, often get isolated and miss out on their perfect home remedies for our colds and allergies, and the nourishing meals they cook with love and intention. We also miss out on receiving their wisdom, and knowing what it means to live in nature and benefit from her all-knowing, maternal embrace.

The Ayurveda Ancestral Herbal Library offers you the opportunity to open a doorway into a truly sacred experience of connecting with ancestral wisdom from Acharya Shunya’s long lineage of Ayurveda healers. Learn how to age gracefully and heal yourself naturally. Experience the joy of simple, yet potent herbal remedies and recipes you will learn in each of these inspiring classes. Connect with profound ancestral wisdom, from Baba to Acharya Shunya to you, that will heal your body, and also open your heart and free your spirit.

Acharya Shunya

“Since the body itself manifests from the laws of Nature, then the body is nourished by Nature’s own loving, caring, and eternally peaceful helpers.”

Acharya Shunya is a rare teacher who grew up living by Ayurveda since the day she was born in the home of her grandfather, Baba Ayodhya Nath, a renowned master Ayurveda healer who was also her Guru. Her home was her classroom as Baba taught her and the many other students who lived with them at their residential school, how to handcraft their health with the help of special foods, herbs, spices, and flowers taught in the ancient original Ayurvedic source texts. Acharya Shunya now teaches her students nature’s secrets with joy as she weaves in her unique Ayurvedic childhood learning experiences and draws upon 35 years of experience as an Ayurveda teacher and healer. Acharya Shunya’s inspiring teachings and personal conviction will encourage you to awaken your inner self-healer.

Chef Sanjai

“When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”

Chef Sanjai founded and leads Vedika’s Ayurvedic kitchen. He has developed and taught original recipes inspired by ancient Ayurvedic source texts, based on the science of the healing potency and potential of the ingredients used in the healing Ayurvedic recipes. He believes that food is medicine and that Ayurveda food can heal your body, mind and spirit, but only when cooked with good intentions and the knowledge of the potency of ingredients used. His love of the art of Ayurvedic cooking comes from his childhood spent learning from his mother. He teaches you how to develop a relationship with food, spices, herbs, and flowers and make the whole journey – from selecting ingredients to food preparation to garnishing and serving – one of mindfulness and joy. All of the recipes he teaches derive from his years of research into the ancient Ayurvedic source texts, particularly the Bhavaprakash. This text focuses a great deal on explaining the healing potencies of nature’s helpers that you can befriend in each class to handcraft your health.
